The relationship between leadership styles of private school administrators and teacher motivation

This study aimed to determine the relationship between leadership styles of private school administrators and teacher motivation. The sample consisted of 479 teachers working in private schools in the Büyükçekmece district of Istanbul during the 2023-2024 academic year. The data were collected using a quantitative research method, and a relational screening model was employed. The findings indicate that school administrators' leadership styles have significant effects on teacher motivation. Democratic leadership and a balanced level of laissez-faire leadership positively affect teacher motivation, whereas excessive laissez-faire and autocratic leadership practices negatively impact certain dimensions of motivation. In this context, it is crucial for school administrators to develop effective leadership skills and create a motivating school environment to enhance teachers' motivation levels. Furthermore, it is recommended that more data be gathered on how teachers' perceptions of leadership styles affect long-term school success and teacher commitment.
