Examining the effects of computer aided music education program developed for gifted students on their musical creativity

Abstract (EN)

In this research, in order to improve the musical creativity, which is an important high level cognitive skill, a 10-week of computer aided instruction program with the content that requires musical composition (oral composition) has been designed for the gifted individuals. By this research, it is aimed that an alternative music education program and measurement tool will be created for the gifted individuals in order to contribute to their education and music education. The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of computer aided music education program on musical creativity of the gifted children. The working group of the research consists of 11-13 year old students with special talent diagnosis who are attending Sıdıka Akdemir Science and Art Center, Konak Şehit Ömer Halisdemir Science and Art Center, Karşıyaka Aydoğan Yağcı Science and Art Center and Şehit Fatih Satır Science and Art Center in İzmir. The experimental group of the research consists of a total of 21 talented students, 10 girls and 11 boys, and the control group consisted of 8 girls and 11 boys. In the research, pre and post-test research designs of unequal groups of semi-experimental designs were used. In order to determine the effect of the experimental research on the musical creativity of the students, the Musical Creative Product Evaluation Rubric, which shows the validity and reliability of the research scope, and semi-structured interview forms prepared by the researcher, were used to ensure the social validity of the research. These forms were used during the interviews with parents and 21 students in the experimental group who benefited from the Computer Aided Music Teaching Program. In order to ensure the content validity of the Musical Creative Product Evaluation Rubric, the scale was examined by three different music education experts and finalized in line with the feedback from these experts. So as to ensure the reliability of the scores obtained from the measurement tool, the compositions obtained from the study group were scored by 3 raters. In the research, SPSS 23.0 program was used to analyze the differences between the groups and before versus after the application and the significance level of this difference in the light of pre-test-post-test data obtained by using the Musical Creative Product Evaluation Rubric. All data obtained were found to fit a normal distribution. The qualitative data obtained from the interviews were analyzed by the induction data analysis technique. As a result of the inductive data analysis, the data were transformed into themes and the contents of the expressions of the students and parents towards the program were examined by calculating their frequency and percentages depending on the categories. In the analysis of the qualitative data, the intercoder reliability(percentage agreement) of the researchers was examined to calculate the reliability of the analyst. For this purpose, the reliability = Consensus / Consensus + Disagreementx100 formula was applied on the coding made by the two researchers conducting the research. According to the findings of the research, it has been found out that the computer-aided music education program has a significant effect on the creative product development of gifted children, this effect is permanent and that students and parents have positive opinions about the impact and content of the education.
