Abstract (EN)
In this study titled "Evaluation of Original Printing Workshops According to Design Elements and Principles" the aim was to evaluate the works of 3rd-grade students in the elective art workshop of arts education, who designed their works with linoleum and engraving techniques in original printmaking classes, according to design elements and principles, measure the levels of usage of design elements and principles, and identify design problems. The study group of the research consists of a total of 30 students from the 3rd grade students of Gazi University, Gazi Faculty of Education, Department of Fine Arts Education, Painting-Business Teaching Elective Art Original Printing Workshop in the fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year. The linoleum and engraving works of 30 students who took the elective art workshop of original printmaking comprise a total of 60 prints, all in black and white. The linoleum works designed by the students are numbered as X, and the engraving works they designed are numbered as Y. For the evaluation of the designed works according to design elements and principles, a "Evaluation Scale" consisting of a total of 16 items (criteria) was prepared by the researcher. The evaluations of the works were conducted by three experts in the field based on the items in the evaluation scale. Each work was evaluated separately by the experts as (1) very unsuccessful, (2) unsuccessful, (3) fair, (4) successful, (5) very successful. The average of the scores determined by three experts for each evaluated work was calculated, and this average formed the evaluation score of that work. Then, the general averages of the evaluation scores of all the works designed according to each item in the evaluation scale were also calculated. All data obtained from the evaluations of experts were analyzed by the researcher, compiled into tables, and interpreted. As a general result of the study; regarding the usage levels of design elements in linoleum printing works, it was found that 1 element was "fair," 4 elements were "average," and 1 element was "successful." Regarding the usage levels of design principles in linoleum printing works, it was found that 5 principles were "average," and 4 principles were "successful." In engraving printing works, it was found that 1 element was "unsuccessful," and 5 elements were "unsuccessful" regarding the usage levels of design elements, while 3 principles were "average," and 6 principles were "successful" regarding the usage levels of design principles. Based on this information, it was concluded that the majority of design elements and principles were used at a successful level in both linoleum printing and engraving printing works.
