Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Aim; Suicide is a vital public health problem. In the present study, it is aimed to investigate whether serotonin receptor gene has polymorphism (rs6313-rs6314) in the blood sample obtained from the cases of suicide attempt and aimed to determine whether the polymorphism outcomes will contribute to elucidating the origin of the suicide cases. Materials and Methods; After obtaining the necessary permissions for our work, 178 suicide attempt cases applying to the emergency services between the date of 14.12.2015-31.07.2016 and control group of 174 people were included in our study. The samples we collected were analyzed and rs6313-rs6314 polymorphisms were studied. Results; 116 cases (65.2%) were females and 62 cases (35.8%) were males of the suicide attempts. The most commonly used suicide method (86%-153 cases) was drug overdose. For rs6313 40 AA, 99 AG and 39 GG genotypes were detected in the case group and 38 AA, 91 AG and 45 GG genotypes were detected in the control group. For rs6314 176 AG and 2 GG genotypes were detected in the case group, 171 AG and 3 GG genotypes were detected in the control group. Conclusion; Socio-demographic profile of the suicide attempts and risk factors for suicide were partially revealed in our study. We couldn't find significant relationship between suicide attempt behavior and rs6313-rs6314 polymorphisms investigated within the scope of our study.
