Abstract (EN)

The Retrospective Analysis of the Patients with Esophageal Cancer and Stomach Cancer Purpose: The purpose is finding out the data of our hospital by the examination of retrospective analysis to the recovery of patients with esophageal cancer and stomach cancer. Material and Method: In this study, patients with histopathologic esophageal cancer and stomach cancer who were treated ambulatory or inpatient between the dates January of 1, 2010 and December of 31, 2015 in Ataturk University Medical Faculty Hospital. Patients who had total/subtotal gastrectomy by the diagnosis of stomach cancer after the endoscopic stomach biopsy and the patients with the diagnosis of malignancy by the endoscopic esophageal biopsy are investigated by using pathology clinic data between the dates specified. Findings: In this study, single centre, retrospective study is made by using 623 patients in total; 271 patients with esophageal cancer and 352 patients with stomach cancer. The average age of patients with esophageal cancer is 63 ± 13,2 (30-93), the average age of patients with stomach cancer is 64,6 ± 11,5 (24-92). In the histopathologic research on the patients with esophageal cancer, squamous cell carcinoma with 77.5% percentage; on the patients with stomach cancer, determined as adenocarcinoma with 92.6% percentage are most seen types. The most frequent localization area of the esophageal cancer is determined as 1/3 sub-section of the esophagus, and the stomach cancer is determined as corpus. 23.9% of the patients with esophageal cancer could not be evaluated in terms of metastasis, 19.5% of the patients were metastatic and the most frequent metastasis area is lungs. 30.1% of the patients with stomach cancer could not be evaluated in terms of metastasis, 18.5% of the patients were determined as metastatic (Phase IV). Most frequent phase was Phase IIIc of the patients with stomach cancer who were evaluated. 5.9% of the patients with stomach cancer were determined as early gastric cancer. The mean overall survival period of the patients with esophageal cancer is found 11,2 ± 10,9 (0-63) months, the patients with stomach cancer is found 13,5 ± 13 (0-62) months while evaluated in terms of survival. In this study, it is seen that gender, tumor localization, and histopathologic type do not make a significant difference in the mean overall survival both for the patients with esophageal cancer and the patients with stomach cancer. Results: As a result, in the future national scanning programs can be applied for the early diagnosis of esophageal and stomach cancers which are seen frequently in our country and have high mortality. Key Words: Esophageal cancer, stomach cancer, demographical features, survival
