Determination of cytotoxic effect potential of ozonated hazelnut oil

Abstract (EN)

Hazelnut is an extremely important agricultural product with high nutritional value produced in our country. The use of hazelnut oil has also increased and the ozonated form has never been obtained before. Ozonated vegetable oils are preferred for ozone treatment because they are easy to apply and obtain. In this study, refined hazelnut oil was used as a control group in this study in order to determine the cytotoxic effect potential of hazelnut oils obtained by ozonation at 7-8 different times and the density, viscosity, peroxide and iodine values were determined. Potential cytotoxic effect was determined by MTT test in 3 different cell lines to determine the safe use of ozonated hazelnut oil (samples 2, 3, 4, 5). For this, viability rates were calculated at 5 different concentrations of each sample after 48 and 72 hours incubation in H1299 lung cancer, HUVEC endothelial cells and A549 cell line. As a result, it was determined that there was no cytotoxic effect of hazelnut oil applied at 3 different cell lines at 5 different concentrations (100/ 50/ 25/ 12,5/ 6,25 μg/ml). At the same time, it was also shown that there was no toxic effect of ozonation of the samples when compared with refined ozonated hazelnut oil. For this reason, ozonated hazelnut oils can be used as an alternative to refined hazelnut oil without any toxic effects resulting from the ozonation process. This information has led to the conclusion that ozone can be used safely in the absence of a cytotoxic effect of hazelnut oil ozonation in the light, but it can also be produced as a functional oil containing pharmacological effects as well as cosmetic effects.
