Investigation of bacteriophage/bacteriocin presence and host width in Paenibacillus dendritiformis isolates

Abstract (EN)

Paenibacillus dendritiformis is a bacillus in the spores of the spores, freshly culture Gram positive stained, vegetative cells are flat, the edges are parallel to each other, the ends are round or blunt ends, mostly containing subterminal bulging spores. They are among the species isolated from the microbiota of bees that come into contact with contaminated environments. In our study, isolation of P. larvae strains caused by American foulbrood was isolated and identified in 17 P. dendritiformis strains. The aim of this study was to determine the presence of bacteriophage / bacteriocin / antimicrobial activity and host width of P. dendritiformis. Approximately 139 species of the genus Paenibacillus are known and the presence of species with biocontrol, insecticidal (antemicrobial) and antimicrobial activity is known and the similarity of P. dendritiformis was investigated. In our study, phage induction was performed with Mitomycin C of 17 P. dendritiformis strains identified by biochemical and molecular methods. The lysates from the induced strains were tested by cross dropping method against a total of 60 different isolates of saprophyte (P. dendritiformis and Bacillus sp.) And pathogen (P. larvae) strains isolated from bee flora. Bacteriophage was detected in 13 of P. dendritiformis strains tested. It was observed that the identified phages could infect at least one up to five different tested hosts. Bacteriophage PB22f was examined by electron microscopy and it was found that B type phage was not long tailed. The presence of phage, host width or bacteriocin / antimicrobial activity content of P. dendritiformis strains is thought to be important in terms of demonstrating their usefulness as a potential biocontrol agent in the treatment of bee diseases.
