Abstract (EN)

Biodiesel, derived from vegetables, animals fat and waste frying oil, is an alternative fuel, which will be able to substitute for petroleum based diesel fuel in terms of emission and performance. In this regard, it has been widely used in automobile engines.In this thesis, cottonseed oil methyl ester (COME) has been used obtaining the so-called transesterification method from cottonseed oils, which have been mostly produced in Turkey?s Mediterranean and Aegean regions. Cottonseed oil methyl ester has used as fuel in a 4-cylinder, direct injection diesel engine using the blend of B20 and diesel fuel were tested 12°, 15°, 18°, 21° and 24° CA injection advances at full load conditions. Engine performance and exhaust emission values were obtained and compared with each other type of fuel used in different injection advances.By increasing injection timing to 21° CA when running with biodiesel B20, engine torque and power increased about 3,9%, 2,2% and specific fuel consumption decreased about 5,1% according to the running with standard diesel fuel in standard injection timing.
