Investigation of the relationship between anxiety, depression, mental symptom and burnout in health care professionals during the pandemic period

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the relationship between anxiety, depression, mental symptom and burnout in healthcare workers during the pandemic period was investigated. The Covid-19 pandemic has started to spread rapidly all over the world as of March 12, 2020. Pandemics generally pose a threat to public health by causing serious physical and mental problems and loss of life. Healthcare workers, on the other hand, are at high risk in pandemics as a professional group. While most of the people remained closed at home within the scope of the measures implemented during the pandemic period, the healthcare professionals working in different areas continued their struggle with self-sacrifice in the face of the difficulties. In this context, in accordance with the purpose of the research, a survey was conducted with 324 healthcare professionals aged between 18-65 who took an active role in health institutions in the province of Istanbul during the pandemic. Sociodemographic information form prepared by the researcher, Maslach Burnout Scale, Beck Depression Scale, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI 1 and 2) and General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12) were used as data collection tools in the study. As a result of the study, it was determined that there was no significant difference in the mean scores of health workers from the scales and sub-dimensions according to the variables of age, gender, marital status, working time, and educational status during the pandemic period. In addition, it was determined that the participants had moderate depression, anxiety, burnout and general health scores, the correlation coefficients between each scale and its dimensions and the scale averages were statistically significant and there was a strong correlation between them.
