The investigation of the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder on the levels of burnout in the pandemic process: A research on pre-hospital emergency medical personnel

The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder and generalized anxiety disorder and to examine their effects on burnout levels in pre-hospital emergency medical personnel who were at the forefront of health institutions during the covid-19 pandemic, which is accepted as a global trauma. The research model and hypotheses were developed based on the theoretical foundations and research results in the literature. In this study, which is cross-sectional and quantitative research, sample data collected with the participation of 536 employees working in İstanbul's 112 emergency health service stations and command control centre were found suitable for analysis. In the quantitative part of the study, reliability and validity analysis, and correlation analysis were used for the analysis of the data. The proposed hypothetical model and the obtained data were quantitatively analyzed in the SPSS 26.0 statistical package program. According to the findings, a significant and positive relationship was found between Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder among prehospital emergency medical personnel. It is seen that there is a statistically significant and positive relationship between burnout levels and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Generalized Anxiety. The findings of the study also revealed that 71.6% of prehospital emergency medical personnel had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, it also draws attention to Generalized Anxiety Disorder in 33.8% of the participants, and 40.7% of the participants state that they experience psychological problems related to the traumatic events they encounter in their professional life. The results of this study support the view that pre-hospital emergency medical personnel are in the risk group in terms of the effect of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder on their burnout levels.
