Investigation of adults self-compassion and emotional regulatory skills and the connection of uncertainty integration and psychological symptoms in the pandemic process

Özet (EN)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between adults' self-compassion and cognitive emotion regulation skills, intolerance to uncertainty levels and psychological symptoms during the Covid-19 pandemic, and to determine whether these relationships differ according to demographic characteristics. The study has been carried out with a total of 390 participants, 294 women and 96 men, aged between 18-65 years, without a psychiatric diagnosis. The study is examined in accordance with the relational research model. Data collection tools used are Self-Compassion Scale, Brief Symptom Inventory, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale, Cognitive Emotion Regulation Scale and sociodemographic information form prepared by the researcher. In the analysis of the data, Mann-Whitney U Test, Kruskal-Wallis H test and Spearmann Correlation Analysis are employed. The findings of this study have determined that there is a positive and significant relationship between the scores of isolation and identification, which are sub-dimensions of self-compassion, and the scores of intolerance to uncertainty and the psychological symptom scores such as anxiety, depression and negative self esteem. In this study, it has been observed that there is a significant relationship between cognitive emotion regulation and psychological symptoms, there is a significant relationship betwen self-compassion scores and cognitive emotion regulation scores. It is furthermore determined that the findings differ according to demographic variables such as gender, marital status, chronic disease, income status, and having a child. The relations between the sub-dimensions of the scales have been discussed within the framework of the relevant literature in the study, and suggestions are presented for future studies.
