The effect of Covid-19 pandemic on flight attendants turn over rate: The case of airlines using Europe's and Turkey's aerospace

The recent pandemic caused by COVID-19 has globally affected air transport mobility as well as the airline industry in general. Numerous restrictions have been implemented in airline transport, which is potentially leading towards long-term impacts on the global airline industry. In this paper, air transport mobility was analyzed regarding Europe and Turkey based on the available data from the relevant sources associated with the airline industry. Also in this paper, flight attendants turnover rate has been analyzed based on three years data starting from 2018. Flights were analyzed in specific periods from January to December of 2020, which corresponded with the initialization of the pandemic in the Europe and Turkey. The results revealed that COVID-19 gradually affected air transport mobility in the Europe and Turkey where a peak was reached in April with a reduction in the number of flights in the Europe region reaching more than 90%. Because of the peak, airline companies needed to save money and they started to dismissal employees. The unit which has the most employment in airline companies is Cabin Services. Most of the companies started dismissaling from flight attendants. Study shows %70 decline of Eurpean and Turkish Aerospace usage during January-December 2020 and due to this situation, a huge decrease of employment rate of the flight attendants has been captured.
