Abstract (EN)

THE RELATION OF NITRIC OXIDE AND LIPID LEVELS IN PANIC DISORDER ANDMAJOR DEPRESSION PATIENTSBeyza TOPALOGLUSUMMARY:PURPOSE:The purpose of this study is to determine;1. whether there is a relation between Panic Disorder (PD) and Major Depression (MD)disease levels and Nitric Oxide (NO) levels,2. the relation between NO levels and lipid methabolism in PD and MD patients,3. whether if NO could be an indicator for PD and MD diagnosis.MATERIALS:Seventy one people who were physically healthy and had no previous history of drugmedication enrolled in our study. Three groups were formed comprising 26 MD, 19 PD and26 healthy controls. Preprandial serum lipid and NO levels and clinical psychiatric tests wereperformed for all candidates.RESULTS:Age, sex and serum lipid levels had no statistically significant differences in between thegroups. Control group (CG) NO levels were higher compared to other groups but this was notstatistically significant (p=0.06). In neither group, there was no significant relation betweenlipid and NO levels.CONCLUSION:Lipid levels had no significant difference in all of the groups. In healthy controls NO levelsseemed to be higher compared to PD and MD groups. Larger study groups are needed tosupport this data statistically. Lipid and NO levels showed correlation with some of theclinical psychiatric rating tests. This finding points out that lipid and NO levels are notspecific indicators of the diseases but they are in relation with some of the symptoms of thediseases. Neither groups showed any correlation between lipid and NO levels.
