The effect of cognitive behavioral therapy-based psychoeducation on psychological well-being and coping with stress in individuals diagnosed with panic disorder

Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study was conducted to determine the effect of cognitive behavioral therapy based psychoeducation on psychological well-being and coping with stress in individuals diagnosed with panic disorder. Material and Method: The study was conducted in Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital and Dicle University Hospital between May 2021-November 2021 as a randomized controlled trial with a pre-test post-test control group. The study was completed with 105 individuals diagnosed with panic disorder (51 experimental, 54 control) who were treated in the outpatient clinics of Diyarbakır Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital and Dicle University Hospital. Data were collected using the Descriptive Characteristics Form, the Psychological Well-being Scale and the Coping with Stress Scale. The individuals diagnosed with panic disorder in the experimental group were given eight sessions (one session per week) CBT-based psychoeducation in the form of group training, and no intervention was applied to individuals diagnosed with panic disorder in the control group. Number, percentage, mean, standard deviation, chi-square, t-test wasused in the analysis of the data. Results: The level of psychological well-being (41.37±4.06) and coping with stress (86.72±6.84) scores of individuals diagnosed with panic disorder in the experimental group after CBT-based psychoeducation increased compared to the level of psychological well-being (31.46±8.35) and coping with stress (83.57±5.96) scores of individuals diagnosed with panic disorder in the control group. In the study, it was determined that the difference between the psychological well-being and coping with stress scales pretest and posttest total score averanges of individuals diagnosed with panic disorder in the experimental group of CBT-based psychoeducation was statistically significant (p<0.05). Conclusion: CBT-based psychoeducation applied to individuals diagnosed with panic disorder; It was determined that it was effective in increasing the level of psychological well-being and the level of coping with stress in these individuals.
