Patchwork from piece to whole in contemporary interpretations of ceramic art

In this thesis research, "kırkyama" ,which is cultural richness from part the whole based on the historical Seljuks in Anatolia; and is not only cultural heritage today, but also a maintaining existence without destroyig its traditional structure, has been emphasized how other cultures are still applicable all over the world with different techniques called "patchwork". The definition of patchwork, its emergence in the historical process, cultural spread, development with technology over time and being the subject of artistic activities in various parts of the world are reported on the first part of the thesis research. Over time patchwork has become more than a cultural phenomenon, in this process, the diversification of application techniques and materials and how it evolved into a rich state by meeting with different areas of art were examined in the second chapter through the examples of contemporary art and artists.And in the application section, which is the third part where the thesis research is concluded, ceramic art and patchwork, which will always be up to date in the perception of traditional and modern art, were carried out in order to contribute and support to this research; the applications of the research, which is concerned with the combination of forms, structures, colors and texture richness. Although ceramics are the main material in this study, the aim of the dissertation is to bring about interdisciplinary interaction with patchwork within artistic actions.
