Late Roman and early Byzantine coins (3-7th A.D.) found in parion between 2005-2014 years

Ancient city of Parion is located in the north of the Troad Region, and today it is within the borders of the Kemer Village of the Biga Municipality of Çanakkale County. The remains of the ancient city are observed densely in the proximity of the Bodrum Cape which points in to the sea in a manner of a tongue, located to the northeast of the village. Parion with it's geographical and strategical position has been a city of need for the sovereigns whom were in power in the region. As a result of this significant finds have been found during the excavations conducted since 2005. The subject of this dissertation is among these important finds, the Late Roman and Early Byzantine coin finds from the Necropolis, Theatre, Agora and Shops, Roman Bath, Slope Bath, Odeion, and the surface during the excavations of 2005-2014. Coins subject to this work are counted as 1905 coins, mostly are of poor condition and hardly identifiable, therefore the coins of better condition which are 867 coins have been evaluated with their catalogue being made. The coins have been evaluated according to their distribution among find spots, theemperors, mint marks typology and legends; and metrologically. Within the catalogue 821 coins are Late Roman coins which date to between the 3rd-5th centuries AD, and the other 46 coins are Early Byzantine coins which date from the Anastasius's reform of copper coins in 498 AD to Heraclius Period (610-641 AD). Coins have been studied and dated according to their context of the structure they were found in, with the plan of the structures and with the aid of other finds. This work as well as sheding light on the usage phases of the structural remains in Parion, puts forth the economic and social condition of Parion and the Troad Region during the Late Roman and Early Byzantine Periods.
