Byzanti̇ne glazed cerami̇cs of Pari̇on

Parion Ancient City is located in the village of Kemer in the borders of the Biga district of Çanakkale province in the north of the Troas region. The remains of the city are mostly concentrated in the Bodrum Burnu located in the north-east of the village. The glazed ceramic finds discovered during the excavations of the ancient city of Parion since 2005 form the material of this research. The ceramics were dated and classified in the finds obtained. The 326 glazed ceramics recovered during the excavation season and identified as belonging to the Byzantine period were examined by using scientific methods, according to dough color, form, ornament and various glaze techniques, and 194 of them were taken into consideration and the catalog was prepared. 171 of the ceramics collected in the catalog are white pasted and dated to 9-11 A.D, and 23 of them are red pasted and are dated to A.D 12th century. The ceramics are dated according to the coins, architectural finds and other contemporaneous materials on the floor.It is thought that the part of the glazed ceramic pieces found in the Parion is local production and the other part is coming through trade. This will give us important information about the life, form and needs of the ceramics within the socio-economy of the Byzantine period of the Parion Antique City. It will also play an important role in elucidating the relations with other cities in the Troas Region and their immediate surroundings according to the data obtained from the excavations.
