Other than the fact that cities are expanding with one or more centers without planning, alongwith other problems, transportation and traffic matters are becoming one of the mostimportant issues in our country. It can be said that this problem is caused by the increase ofnumber of private vehicles, people coming to central business districts (CBD) with theirprivate vehicles, people parking their vehicles inappropriately on the side road because of theinsufficiency of parking capacities in CBD?s and the fact that their charges are high and dueto these factors, the reality is that the existing capacity can not be used. When the lack of roadnetworks in CBD?s is added to these reasons, the problem is getting even larger.In order to solve this problem, a study of planning that supports multiple transportation typesor enables the transition to the multiple transportation system must be carried out. During thestudies of planning, it must be considered that the most important way to attract people topublic transportation is to provide easy access. In order to achieve this; the solutions that willmake people choose public transportation instead of their private vehicles, and the facilitiesheeded should be planned so that people may give up using private vehicles while getting tothe central business district. These facilities can be classified and named as park and rideaccording to their functions (like satellite parking facilities, opportunistic or joint use lots) orlocations (like suburban park and ride facilities, remote long distance lots, local urban parkand ride lots).In this thesis, the description of the parking lot and its varities are explained in detail, and adetailed literature survey on describing the park and ride facilities, their classifications,localisations and planning processes are presented. Moreover, Harem Parking Lot has beeninspected under this frame and public surveys have been done with its users. At the end of thestudy, matters that should be taken into consideration while categorizing the determination ofthe locations of park and ride areas are given and the position of Harem Parking Lot isdesignated in this classification.Key Words: Parking lot, Park and ride, Parking lot design, Harem parking lot, Planning parkand ride facility.
