Abstract (EN)
Basal ganglia are the subcortical nucleus group responsible for motor control located within the substantia alba, deep within the brain hemispheres (9). The aim of this study is to investigate the results of automatic volume measurement methods of basal ganglia volume in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) and healthy individuals, to look at the relationship between the results, to inform clinicians about the results of these methods, to support the diagnosis of PD and to provide benefit (23, 26, 30). Magnetic resonance images of 43 parkinson's disease patients and 45 healthy subjects, taken in the 3D-T1-weighted MPRAGE sequence, between November 2015 and October 2017, were used. The volumes of the basal ganglia of the two groups were measured using the IBASPM software, the MRICloud service and the VolBrain service. When the volumes of basal ganglia were measured with Volbrain and IBASPM method, no significant difference was found between the two groups. When MRICloud volume measurements were considered, a significant difference was found in the right and left side nucleus caudatus measurements between the patient and control group (greater in Parkinson's patients), there was no statistical difference between other measurement results. It was found that MRICloud measurement was higher than IBASPM. In the patient group, it was determined that the volumes measured by two methods were statistically different. In the control group, the volumes measured by two methods were found to be statistically different, except for the left nucleus caudatus volumes measured by MRICloud and IBASPM methods. According to the correlation analysis, the volume results obtained by MRICloud method were more correlated with the reference method. As a result of our study, it is seen that automatic measurement methods give statistically different results from each other. Volume calculations should be made by manual and automatic methods and their relations with each other should be evaluated.
