Investigation of the efficiency of cognitive exercise therapy approach in parkinson's disease

This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of Cognitive Exercise Therapy Approach (BETY) in Parkinson's Disease (PD). People with PD were divided into two groups: a study group that attended BETY sessions and a control group that did not attend these sessions. Modified Hoehn & Yahr Staging Scale (MH&Y) for general condition assessment; Montreal Cognitive Assessment Test (MoCA)for cognitive status assessment, Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS) for evaluate of symptoms; Cognitive Exercise Therapy Approach-Biopsychosocial Questionnaire (BETY-BQ), Beck Depression Scale (BECK-D), 8-Item Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire (PDQ-8) for biopsychosocial status assessment; International physical activity questionnaire-Short (IPAQ-Short) to evaluate activity level; Berg Balance Scale (BDS) was used to evaluate balance. While the study group (n = 10) regularly attended BETY sessions 2 days a week for 12 weeks, the control group (n = 10) was not included in these sessions. When individuals with PD were examined, an improvement was observed in all parameters in favor of the study group included in the BETY sessions (p<0.05), while these results were not reflected in the control group (p>0.05). With this study, BETY, a biopsychosocial-based exercise approach, presented to the literature as a standardized and named innovative model for individuals with PD. It was considered to increase the efficiency of the study by increasing the number of individuals with PD in the study and using different objective outcome measures.
