Evaluation of safety perception of parks in antalya and development of suitable design solutions

From past to present, one of the basic needs of human is to feel safe. Safety is a need that an individual needs first for himself, then for the environment in which he lives and for the society to which he is connected. The perception of safety is an important component in individuals' tendency to prefer open spaces in natural or cultural, rural or urban areas. In this study, it is aimed to determine the crime events in the urban parks in Antalya, to evaluate the current situation of the city parks in terms of security perception, to determine the factors affecting the users' safety perception, to investigate the differences and/or similarities of the findings from other cultures in the world, and to determine the landscape design approaches to increase the perception of security. As a result of the study, the urban parks in Antalya where most crime events occur have been determined and it has been identified by experts and user opinions that some characteristics of crime event (such as type and time), personal (witnessing a crime, childhood years, gender, age), physical (lighting, other people's profile, support status of police/security) and social components (witnessing an event in the park, hearing rumours, criminality) are effective on the perception of safety.
