Analysis of shared e-skuter use and journey: The case of Bursa

Abstract (EN)

In the light of technological developments in recent years, sharing systems have started to become widespread with smart phones, the use of which has increased rapidly, and the economic equivalent of this system is called the sharing economy. The transportation sector is one of the sectors most affected by sharing systems, and the concept of shared mobility has emerged. Shared mobility, on the other hand, allows users to use scooters, bicycles, etc. when they need it. It is defined as the shared use of a vehicle, bicycle or other low-speed mode that provides short-term access to modes of transport and often serves as a first or last kilometer connection to other modes, such as public transport. Shared micromobility has spread rapidly around the world with the emergence of shared e-scooter services in recent years. Due to the fact that it is a new mode, research on the shared e-scooter service is limited and insufficient. In this study, the use of shared e-scooters in Bursa was examined in order to eliminate this deficiency and to better understand the uses of this service. In this context, shared e-scooter journey data were used in the light of data obtained from a shared e-scooter service provider operating in Bursa. In the study, 195,720 trips made by 26,492 users in a 27-month period between September 2020 and November 2022 were analyzed through Microsoft Excel. As a result of the study, shared e-scooter users and their journeys show a great increase every year. It is seen that 78% of the trips are made by young users under the age of 30. 82% of the trips were made by users who made less than 100 trips in total, and the average trip time is 11 minutes. It is seen that there is no significant difference in the distribution of trips according to the days of the week, but the trips on Friday and Saturday are more frequent. When the journeys are examined according to the hours of the day, it is concluded that the journeys start to increase with the morning working hours and the starting hours of the lesson, the peak time of the journeys is 17.00 and the journeys start to decrease after the peak hour.
