Investigation of portrait tradition in Turkish painting during the Republic Period according to pedagogic criticism method

The aim of this research is to examine the portrait works produced in the Republican period in the context of art criticism using pedagogical criticism. While making this study, starting from the development process of Turkish painting, life stories of the artists who took part in the period between 1840-1940 of the Republican period was mentioned, the art groups and art journeys they were involved in examined, after the definition of portrait and self-portraits made, what was the pedagogical art criticism method proposed by Feldman was mentioned. In the last stage, the selected works were examined in terms of pedagogical art criticism. These examinations are exemplary and the definitions of art criticism, tables and related question patterns were used. It is expected that individuals who gain the discipline of criticism will be able to look at the events differently, begin to explore the value of the work of art, and develop their capacity to make individual interpretations without relying on a source. During these acquisitions, it was aimed to develop the sociocultural structure of the society, the artistic journey of the country, the memory of artists and works of art on a portrait basis. As a result, the portrait works of the Republican period, which were examined by pedagogical criticism method, were aimed to become a resource for those interested.
