Abstract (EN)
Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the validity and reliability of the Pediatric Motivation Scale (PMOT), which evaluated motivation for the intended rehabilitation program and examine the relationship between functional level and motivation in chronic disabled children participating in rehabilitation. Method: The study included 62 children with chronic disability participating in a rehabilitation program between 8-18 years of age. The socio-demographic characteristics of the children were questioned by a form prepared by the researcher. Children's motivation for rehabilitation was assessed by PMOT and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). The correlation between the PMOT and VAS was examined to determine validity of the scale. The Cronbach alpha value was calculated to determine internal consistency. In order to determine test-retest reliability, 15 randomly selected children were evaluated two weeks after the first evaluation and "Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC)" value was calculated. Functional level of the children was assessed by the Pediatric Functional Independence Measure (WeeFIM). Results: The average age of the children was 12.16±3 years. There was a good correlation between PMOT and VAS in the positive direction. Internal consistency of PMOT was high (Cronbach alpha=0.827) and test-retest reliability was very high (ICC=0.960). There was no association between functional level and motivation (p=0.896). Conclusion: The Turkish version of PMOT is a valid and reliable scale for children with chronic disabilities. In our study, there was no relationship between functional level and level of motivation for participation in rehabilitation in children with chronic disabilities. The high level of functional levels of children has led to high level of motivation. Key words: Motivation, Child, Rehabilitation, Chronic Disability
