Evaluation of PEFC (programme for the endorsement of forest certification) national standard of türki̇ye from silvicultural perspective

PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) is an international voluntary forest management certification system that encourages sustainable forest management. This system supports the development of national forest management certification systems in accordance with sustainability criteria and recognizes them through an independent, transparent and multi-stakeholder process. The main purpose of PEFC is to protect the environmental, social and economic values of the forest areas in the scope. In this context, issues such as forest health, protection of biodiversity, worker rights (ILO Conventions), participation of local people, and compliance with national and international environmental agreements are taken into consideration in the certification process. PEFC is compatible with ISO standards and aims to increase confidence in certified forest products in the global market. In this way, forest management institutions can gain competitive advantage by documenting sustainability thanks to PEFC, while consumers can prefer environmentally friendly products. PEFC Turkey National Standard was developed under the leadership of SOYDER (Sustainable Forest Management, Products and Services Certification Association). In this study, this standard is evaluated from a silvicultural perspective.
