Abstract (EN)
Mandibular third molars are the most impacted teeth in oral cavity. Finding the relationship of impaction of these teeth with ABO and Rh blood types is crucial to predict which populations and individuals are more vulnerable, and to better intervention. Meanwhile, Pell & Gregory and Winter classifications are most used to categorize for mandibular third molars according to their positions in jaws while many classifications are present. The aim of our study was to investigate if there is any relationship of blood types with mandibular impacted third molar graded via Pell & Gregory and Winter classifications. To this regard, 534 patients (274 male-260 female) who came to be examined to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, Faculty of Dentistry, Alaaddin Keykubat University between May 1, 2023 and December 31, 2023 and met including criterias were selected randomly. In addition, 890 mandibular impacted third molars belonging to these patients were included in our study. Participants were grouped according to blood types, then mandibular third molars were graded with Pell & Gregory and Winter classifications. Statistical analyzes were performed to assess if there was any relationship between blood type and lower third molar impaction. Concerning the results of our study, although there was not any association between blood types and impaction according to the Winter classification, the significant association between blood types and mandibular third molar impaction was found statistically regardless of gender and region discrimination according to the Pell & Gregory classification (p=0,008).
