Pelvic floor strengthening program women's urinary incontinence, constipation and effect on sexual functions

Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted as a pre-post test randomized controlled experimental study to determine the effect of pelvic floor strengthening program applied to obese women on urinary incontinence, constipation and sexual functions. The sample of the study, who applied to Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital Urology, Endocrine and Gynecology Polyclinics between 01.02.2021 - 30.09.2021; It consisted of 222 obese women (111 experimental, 111 control group) with 74 urinary incontinence (experimental group 37, control group 37), 74 constipation (experimental group 37, control group 37), 74 sexual dysfunction (experimental group 37, control group 37) . Data were collected with the "Descriptive Characteristics Form", "International Short Form for Consultation on Urinary Incontinence", "Constipation Severity Scale" and "Female Sexual Function Scale". Pelvic floor strengthening program was applied to obese women in the experimental group. Data analysis was done in SPSS program. No intervention was made in the control group. At the end of the implemented initiatives; The frequency and amount of urinary incontinence and the effect of urinary incontinence on daily life were significantly reduced compared to the control group of the women in the experimental group. Similarly, in those with constipation problems; stool obstruction, large intestine laziness and pain level were significantly reduced. Women with sexual dysfunction; While the levels of desire, arousal, lubrication and orgasm increased, the pain levels during sexual intercourse decreased. At the end of the study, it was determined that the pelvic floor strengthening program was effective in reducing urinary incontinence, constipation and sexual function problems in obese women (p<0.05).
