IV SUMMARY Masters Thesis DETERMINATION OF THE HEAT PERFORMANCE IN WINDOWS SYSTEMS Faruk ORAL Fırat University Graduate Scholl of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Engineering 1996, Page: 63 Windows required in buildings are very important in human life due to lighting and air conditioning of buildings, viewing from inside and protection of buildings from natural damages. Nowadays, types of windows used in buildings are produced in different styles. However, most suitable and more economical windows types could have not yet been established. Therefore, window types having most suitable geometrical shape should be determined in order to minimize heat loses. In this study, heat transfer in window glasses having differend geometrical shapes and surfaces are examined by experimentaly and theoreticaly. Experiments were conducted in a room at constant temperature. Outside temperature was assumed to be 6.5 °C at all experiments. Windows having different geometrical shapes and surface types, but having same surface are as were used. The temperatures at the internal surface of glasses were measured at fifteen different places. Veriation between length of glasses and local Nusselt and Grashof numbers were obtained and plotted in graphs. Results showed that heat loses were in relation with glass geometry.
