Perge Corinthian capitals

Within the scope of the thesis, Corinthian capitals dating to the Hellenistic and Roman Empire periods found in the Ancient City of Perge were studied. A total of 540 Corinthian column capitals were found in the city. Provided that a sample was selected from the same ones, 49 different Corinthian capitals were examined within the scope of the catalogue. One of these capitals dates to the Hellenistic Period and the others to the Roman Imperial Period. The Roman Imperial Period capitals mostly belong to the reigns of Augustus, Hadrian, Antonines and Severus. It is understood that most of the examples are from the Severan period. The corinthian capital dated to the Hellenistic Period was found to be of eastern origin. With this finding, it is understood that the eastern influence, which is thought to have been observed in the city in the 2nd century AD, was present in the Hellenistic Period. It was determined that the pseudo corinthian capitals at the entrances of the theatre parodos reveal an important stage in the construction process of the building. The capitals and arrangements belonging to different dates in other buildings were very important in terms of revealing the development of the building in historical periods. The examples belonging to different dates show us that the reconstruction process of the buildings in the ancient period was realised according to the magnitude of the natural and man-made damages. It is possible to say that the biggest of these destructions were earthquakes. Although it is thought that different workshops worked in Perge throughout the ancient period, the data on this can be followed more clearly during the Antonine period.
