Abstract (EN)

Aim: The study was conducted to determine the learning needs and factors affecting the patients with peripheral arterial surgery. Methods: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The population of the study consisted of patients with peripheral artery surgery at 1 university and 2 educational research hospitals. 150 people were included in the sample group. Data were collected by using the sociodemographic and clinical features form and the Patient Learning Needs Scale. The t-test, Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis tests were used to evaluate the data obtained in the study. Results: The mean age of the patients was 64.02 + 9.74, 79.3% were male, 82.7% were married and 44% were primary school graduates. 80.7% of the patients had chronic disease and 65.3% had a history of smoking. 78.7% of the patients did not receive discharge training. It was concluded that the mean total score was 194.17 ± 27.66, the significance level was 3.88 and it was very important. The highest mean score was obtained from drugs (level of significance= 4.30) and the lowest level of emotion (level of significance= 2.85). In addition to the drugs sub-dimension of the female patients, the total score averages of the other sub-dimensions and scales, the mean scores of the emotion-related sub-dimensions of the patients in the 75-84 age range according to age, the skin-care subscale mean scores of the patients with chronic diseases and the non-smoking patients The mean total score and the quality of life subscale scores of the patients with open surgery were significantly higher (p <0.05). Conclusion: The learning needs of patients with peripheral arterial surgery were found to be high. Qualitative studies are recommended to determine the learning needs of home care patients who are discharged from home and continue their care at home, and to evaluate the effectiveness of planned discharge training according to the determined needs.
