Correlation of biochemical mediators in periimplant crevicular fluid and clinical parameters in periimplantitis

Abstract (EN)

Dental implant treatments becoming more popular in dentistry. We've seen increased number of applications together with periimplant diseases. In consequence, alternative diagnosis techniques, giving rapid and precise results become more of an issue. The aim of this study is to evaluate clinical and biochemical correlation between periimplantitis and periimplant health. 40 implants representing healthy periimplant tissues and 40 implants having periimplantitis, sum of 80 implants, included in our study. Demographic datas enrolled with plaque index, bleeding on probing, width of keratinized tissue, probing depth and presence of pus. Biochemical analysis have been performed in healthy and periimplantitis groups' periimplant crevicular fluids with ELISA. We have revealed periimplant crevicular fluid levels of IL-1β, IL-12, IL-17, IL-23, MCP-1, M-CSF, RANKL, OPG and TRAF 6 with this analysis. The mean clinical data, plaque index, bleeding on probing and probing depth were found significantly higher in periimplantitis group. Width of keratinized mucosa was found significantly lower in periimplantitis group. IL-23 levels in healthy group and IL-17, M-CSF and TRAF 6 levels in periimplantitis group were significantly higher. Analysis of periimplant crevicular fluid can be considered as a contributory method for diagnosis, treatment and evaluation of treatment outcomes in periimplant diseases.
