Abstract (EN)
The aim of the present study was to compare the effectiveness of mineralized solvent-dehydrated bone allograft (MBA) and bovine derived xenograft (BDX) in combination with bovine type I collagen membrane (CM) in the treatment of human intrabony defecs.Twenty-five chronic periodontitis patients with 38 interproximal intrabony defects participated in this study. Each patient was selected on the basis of having at least 1 or 2 radiographical vertical defects with associated probing depth (PD) of ³ 6 mm and an intrabony component of ? 4 mm following non-surgical therapy. Each of the patients was treated with either MBA in combination with CM (Group A) or BDX in combination with CM (Group B). Prior to surgical treatment and at 12 months, plaque and sulcus bleeding indices, PD, recession, relative attachment level, and probing and radiographic bone levels were measured.Favorable clinical outcomes in soft and hard tissue measurements were achieved in both groups when compared to baseline (p<0,01). Considering the deepest site of the defects, Group A and Group B presented a mean PD reduction of 5.22±1.24 mm and 4.17±1.3 mm, recession of 2±0.94 mm and 1.13±0.83 mm, and attachment gain of 3.22±1.09 mm and 3.04±1.2 mm, respectively. Evaluation of the hard tissue findings revealed that the mean clinical and radiographic bone gains in Group A and Group B were 3.13±1.11 mm and 2.72±1.1 mm, and 2.84±1.12 mm and 2.68±0.88 mm, respectively. The results of the present study indicate that both material combinations have similar clinical and radiographic improvements.
