Abstract (EN)
The aim of this study is to examine the Turkish translation of Pierre Loti's "Constantinople en 1890" (Istanbul 1890) made by Galip Baldıran and the decisions of the translator in this process. Within the scope of the study, Pierre Loti's narrative of Istanbul will be discussed within the frame of the themes such as praise, multiculturalism, animateness-liveliness, silence-peace, modernisation, sense of belonging and spirituality. The examples of Istanbul narratives that are classified in the work will be evaluated by comparing the source and target texts according to Mona Baker's equivalence approach, and the translator's decisions will be examined. During these assessments, rather than a critical style, a descriptive and interpretive approach will be adopted. This study aims to contribute to the field of literary translation and pave the way for other studies. Keywords: Istanbul, Loti, Literary Translation Criticism, Baker, Equivalence
