Isolation and some properties of aromatic hydrocarbones from petroleum and derivatives and polluted soils

In this study, soil samples were taken from areas containing petroleum and petroleum derivatives (fill, discharge and storage areas) from Kazanlı and Karaduvar refinery region in Mersin province. A total of 36 bacteria were isolated from soil samples. The isolates were identified by MALDI-TOF MS method as well as morphological, physiological and biochemical tests. According to the results of MALDI-TOF MS analysis; Staphylococcus hominis, Bacillus mojavensis, Bacillus horikoshii, Malikia spinosa, Agromyces brachium, Stenotrophomonas maltophila, Enterobacter cloacae, Bacillus licheniformis, Stenotrophomonas maltophila, Ochrobactrum tritici, Citrobacter amalonaticus, Enterobacter cloacae, Streptomyces badius, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Cupriavidus necator, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus capitis, Rhizobium radiobacter, Bacillus cereus, Bacillus pumilus, Acinetobacter baumanni, Streptomyces lavendulae, Esherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus species. Antibiotic resistance and total antibiotic resistance percentage of the isolates were determined using 10 different commercial antibiotics. The highest antibiotic resistance percentage was found to be Nitrofurantoin with 63.8% and Imipenem with 0%. Again, the heavy metal resistance of the isolates; CoCl2.6H2O, ZnSO4.7H2O, MnCl2.2H2O and HgCl2 heavy metals were determined using 5 mM, 10 mM, 15 mM and 20 mM concentrations, and the highest heavy metal resistance was observed at both 5 mM and 20 mM manganese concentrations. In addition, 'Drop Collapse'' method was used to determine the ability of isolates to produce biosurfactants and it was found that 7 isolates were capable of synthesizing biosurfactants. In the results of working; different bacteria species capable of degrading polyaromatic hydrocarbons, resistant to heavy metals and antibiotics and capable of producing biosurfactants were obtained from areas containing petroleum and petroleum derivatives. It is thought that the use of species with bioremediation studies will contribute to the regulation of the ecosystem balance.
