Investigation of the historical process of bosphorus green texture from the landscape planning perspective and the study of public and reactive green zones

Bosphorus has been a scene for various developments with all of its values in the history. The most refined level of relationship between urban development and use of greenspace was reached in the Ottoman Era. This character began to change in mid-19th century. Bosphorus waterfront line was drastically altered and the green zones began to disappear in the 20th century due to rapid urban degeneration and heavy industrialization. As presented in the 1st and the 2nd chapter, the purpose of this research study is to investigate greenspace use thoughout the history and propose sound solution alternatives for the development of Bosphorus landscape. In order to achieve these objectives the geographical limits of the study were defined as the Bosphorus visual frontline and the settlements under heavy urbanization were excluded from the study framework. Within this study scope, the phonemenon—"Bosphorus as an image for preservation and vitalization" was conceptually addressed and the natural and social diffusion data and related analyses were investigated. Sub-topics include the comprehensive review of green texture characteristics with their landscape and floristic composition as well as related developments and use scenarios throughout the history. Forests, groves, mansion and palace gardens, cemeteries, prairies, agricultural fields and orchards were meticulously defined with their urban experiences. The degeneration process of green texture in the 20th century was presented with construction law practices and urban development plans and current greenspace uses were examined in the context of planning, design, application, equipment, botanical material preferences.
