Synthesis of metal complexes and pyrimidine-2-thione ring Schiff base

Abstract (EN)

Schiff bases are quite valuable chemicals that have the usage properties in the area of medicine, chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry and industry. Especially in recent years, there have been some intensive studies on biological activities. The increasing studies on pyrimidine based Schiff bases and having some various properties on studies to be done in this subject (anticancer, antibacterial, antifungal etc.) have encouraged us to study in this area.In this study, a new heterocyclic Schiff base from the reaction of 5-chloro-2-hydroxyacethophenone and N-aminopyrimidine-2-thione and metal complexes of this Schiff base?s Cu(II), Pd(II), Mn(II) and Co(II) have been synthesized. To illuminate these compounds? structures; not only spectroscopic technics such as for ligand: elemental analysis (C, H, N, S), UV-Vis, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR; for complexes: elemental analysis, UV-Vis, FT-IR but also magnetic moment and electrolytic conductivity measurement have been used. Octahedral structure has been proposed for Cu(II), Co(II), Mn(II) complexes. All compounds were found to be non-electrolytes in the DMF solutions.
