Abstract (EN)
There are more than 300 species of anise, which is identified with rakı in the geography we live in. It is thought that the gene center in history was around the Eastern Mediterranean and was domesticated for the first time in Egypt. As an alcoholic beverage, anise, which has a history of 500 years in our geography, is a great tradition and folkloric element. As well, anise is known to be involved in folk medicine to alleviate the spastic conditions of infants and adults, to increase breast milk and to have a widespread use as antispasmodic and antibacterial. Besides it is also included in many pharmacopoeias. In this study, it was evaluated whether the samples of 20 different anise fruits (Anisi fructus) sold in herbal shops and purchased by random sampling comply with the monograph standards in the European Pharmacopoeia 7.0. for this purpose following experiments were carrried out; macroscopic examination, microscopic examination, foreign matter determination, determination of water by distillation, determination of essential oil, total ash determination, ash insoluble HCl determination and also the chemical content analysis of the samples were compared by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) technique.
