Essential oil compositions of lavender samples which were supplied from market

The essential oils from plants are used for many purposes; in recent years the interest and increased demand in this area has been pushing producers to lower the production costs. Lavender culture has been traditionally produced mostly in Isparta, Turkey to produce essential oil. In this study, foreign matter content, ash content, quantity of oils obtained with clevenger appliances, Gas Chromatography (GC) and Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS) analyzes of volatile oils were performed on lavender samples supplied from some sellers of medicinal herbs in Eskişehir. Plant samples were tested for foreign matter content and ash content. The results obtained were compared with the "Lavender Monograph" of the European Pharmacopoeia.
