Abstract (EN)

Within the scope of the thesis, obtaining essential oils (EOs) by water distillation (HD) and microwave (MW) methods from Plagiomnium medium and P. rostratum species, identifications by GC-FID-MS, and antimicrobial activities of EOs and solvent extracts (n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, water) were aimed to study. EOs components obtained from plants were elucidated using the GC-FID-MS. The highest amounts of compounds were found in the HD EO of P. medium as pentanal (29.50%), tetradecanal (9.46%), iso-bornyl acetate (8.94%), octanal (5.44%), and humulene epoxide-II (5.29%). The most common compounds found in the MW EO of P. medium, which were pentanol (25.50%), bornyl acetate (24.42%), 𝛽-copaene (5.70%), tetradecanal (5.00%), and 𝛼-pinene oxide (4.44%). The highest amounts of compounds in the HD EO of P. rostratum were found to be octanal (24.12%), bornyl acetate (20.98%), 𝛽-E-ionone (19.90%), phytone (7.62%), and γ-elemen (3.67%). The most common compounds found in the MW EO of P. rostratum were octanal (20.22%), iso-bornyl acetate (11.44%), γ-elemen (11.34%), and α-humulene (8.83%). Antimicrobial activity of essential oils obtained by HD and MW methods and, solvent extracts (n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, and water) of both algae species were conducted against nine different microorganisms. The essential oils of both plants (HD and MW) were found to be most effective against Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (24 mm), Enterococcus faecalis (20 mm), Bacillus cereus (25 mm) and Candida albicans (15 mm) with in the range of 15-25 mm inhibition diameter.
