Abstract (EN)
The purpose of this study is to obtain the optimum design of reinforced concrete buildings with plan irregularity in terms of their performance under static and dynamic loads. Attempts have been made to develop an automatic optimal eccentricity between the mass centre and the rigidity centre of each storey layout and thus minimizing the effect of torsion on the irregular RC structure. Torsional irregularity in reinforced concrete structures is usually caused by the unsymmetrical form of the plan geometry or the stiffness distribution of the vertical elements. Structural optimization methods solve this problem by efficiently distributing materials throughout the structure to eliminate the eccentricity between the centre of mass and the centre of rigidity in each floor layout. Different discrete mathematical models of structures such as 2D single-story and 3D multi-story buildings were used for this study. Furthermore, evaluation of the earthquake incidence angle influence on the seismic performance of irregular buildings is aimed. For this purpose, a single-story shear building is analysed revise this for oriented along with seven different earthquake angles, ranging from 0 to 90 degrees with 15 degrees increment. ETABS® program is used for analysis and design of the structural 3D model. The sizing optimization problem has been formulated and implemented utilizing MATLAB® by application of Genetic Algorithm method. The studies have been supported by experimental results carried out in 8 storey model optimized building, and the performance is evaluated through horizontal loads in thirteen directions ranging from 0 to 180 degrees in 15-degree increments.
