Wear of plastics materials

For example, lesser known technical applications of plastics include chemical processes and in nuclear power generation, where the resistance to chemical and radialogical damage fawor plastics over other materials. Regardless, wear resistance and strengt characteristics ultimately are the determining factor in the successful design, selection and application of these materials. As a case study example, consider the plastics factory in Elazığ, Turkey which produces plastics materials for industrial applications. Many of the products are used in rotational assemblies. However because there is insufficient research on wear on the various plastics materials used, the plant's products suffer from high failure, increased cost etc. For this reason a test rig was constructed at the laboratories of the Technical Education Faculty of Fırat University with the intent to undertake empherical studies of wear characteristics for plastics materials used at Elazığ facility. The resulting wear characteristics data from this study, with important suggestions for improved quality are summerized in this paper.
