Özet (EN)

Berlin Treaty, which was signed at the end of Ottoman-RussianWar(1877-1878) has been regarded as one of the key factors which let to thecollapse of Ottoman Empire.After its defeat in Kırım war, Russia left its policyfor dominition just for a while.However, very soon, Russia started to stimulatehis former policy concerning its will to divide the Otoman Empire. As a result ,Russian declared war agains the Ottoman Empire in 1887 trying to justify thewar with Hersek and Bulgarian Revolts and the war between the OtomanEmpire and Sirbian and Montenegro with the beginning of the war.Russiansstarted to enter through the Balkans over Romanian and eastern Anatoliaover Caucasus.Osman Pasha, who was in Vidin when the war was declared, arrivedin Plevne(Plevna, Pleven) in 19 July,1877.In Plevne, there occured 3important wars in 20 July 1877, 30 July 1877 and 7-12 Sept 1877. In thesewars, Osman Pasha achieved to have the Turkish army counter attack theRussians, therby stopped the Russian progress in the Balkans. After thisincident, the Russians decided to besiege the town in 28 Oct 1877. TheRussian attacked to besiege produced its results and 30 000 Ottomansoldiers had to surrender due to the lack of support and assistance from theEmpire.Osman Pasha changed the course of 1877-1878 Ottoman-RussianWar, since he managed to stop Russians for 145 days. Plevne counter attack(or protection) gave a harm to Russians physically and psychologically. Italso influenced European countries point of view concerning the war and asa result it prevented Russians posible attacks to İstanbul.
