ABSTRACT Master Thesis BOUNDARY ELEMENT METHOD FOR ELECTRIC FIELD PROBLEMS DEFINED BY POISSON EQUATION Hüseyin ERİŞTİ Fırat University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Electrical Education 2005, Page: 93 In this study, Electric field problems with charge density and defined by Poisson equation were solved using Boundary Element Method (BEM). Boundaries of the problem are discreet by means of linear boundary elements. The problem region which has a charge density was subdivided in to triangular elements. The boundary integral equation which includes the domain integral was solved, and unknown values of potential u and its normal derivate q on the boundary were determined. Then, the potential values of the internal points were calculated. Furthermore, potential distributions for point charge were obtained. For solving electric field problems defined by Poisson equation, software called H-BEM was developed using MATLAB. Results obtained from H-BEM compared with those obtained from ELECTRO and MATLAB PDE toolbox results. Key Words: Poisson Equation, Boundary Element Method, Electric Field, Potential Distribution. XI
