Abstract (EN)
This study was planned to evaluate the relationship between the quality of life, body shape and depression status of women with PCOS and diet with healthy eating, carbohydrate quality and dietary inflammatory index. In the study 247 volunteer PCOS patients aged 19-40 years participated. Participants' general knowledge, anthropometric measurements, biochemical findings, nutritional habits, quality of life (PCOSQ-50), thoughts about body shape (BSQ-34), depression status (BDI) and diet quality (Healthy Eating Index-2010 (HEI-2010), Carbohydrate Quality Index (CQI), Diet Inflammatory Index (DII)) were evaluated. The quality of life of individuals is higher in the 25-40 age range compared to the 19-24 age group (161.0±24.81, 171.3±27.34, respectively) (p<0.05). In addition, as the BMI (kg/m2) value of women increases, body anxiety increases (p<0.001). The quality of life score of individuals with minimal depression (175.7±27.61) was higher than those with mild (160.8±23.20) and moderate-to-severe depression (154.4±25.32) (p<0.001). The increase in the body shape anxiety of the participants decreases the quality of life (p<0.001). According to the correlation analysis, a negative correlation was found between PCOSQ-50 and BSQ, BDI, BMI, and it was statistically significant (p<0.001, p<0.001, p=0.002, respectively). In dietary indices, there was a negative correlation between BMI and DII, and a positive correlation between BMI and HEI-2010, and the difference was statistically significant (p<0.001). A negative relationship was found between DII and HEI-2010, and the relationship was statistically significant (p<0.001). There is a positive relationship between the BMI values of the participants and their depression and body shape thoughts. Many factors such as symptoms, age, body shape thinking and depression status affect the quality of life of the individual. In order to increase the quality of life of women with PCOS, decrease depression and improve body image, it is beneficial to apply an individualized good quality, anti-inflammatory diet plan. Keywords: PCOS, quality of life, depression, body shape, diet quality.
