Abstract (EN)
Introduction and Objective: Infertility is defined as inability to conceive despite unprotected sexual intercourse for at least one year. Infertility assessment should include semen analysis in addition to anamnesis and physical examination. There is a need to update semen analysis parameters as time goes on. In this study, we aimed to compare semen analysis data of our own fertile and infertile group with WHO 2010 data. Matherial and Method: The patients who admitted to our clinic with the complaint of inability to achieve pregnancy despite unprotected sexual intercourse twice a week for at least one year were included in the infertile group. The patients who had children who applied to our clinic for any reason other than infertility were included in the fertile group. After anamnesis and physical examination, blood samples were taken and examined in the laboratory of our hospital for hormonal examination. For semen analysis, sexual abstinence condition of 3-7 days was sought from the patients. Semen analysis was performed by specialized biologists in the related unit within the IVF Center of our hospital. Results: Semen volume, total sperm count, sperm concentration and sperm morphology were lower in the infertile group than the fertile group. While serum FSH and prolactin levels were higher in the infertile group, total testosterone and LH levels were lower in the infertile group. Conclusion: The semen analysis reference data of our patient population is consistent with WHO 2010 data and can be used safely in the diagnosis and follow-up of our patients.
