Ottoman front in the First World War from portugal press to A Capital newspaper: Gallipoli, Sinai-Palestine and Iraq

The demise of the Habsburg Dynasty and the transfer of power from the Braganza Dynasty to João IV launched a broader change in Portugal. João IV published "A Gazeta da Restauração", the first offical newspaper in Portugal, on December 1, 1640 to both gain the people's support and reinforce his rule. Having followed this trend in the following years, various newspapers contributed to the establishment and development of a printed press culture in Portugal. A Capital, the first issue of which was published by Manuel Guimarães on July 1, 1910, too became a follower trend. A Capital, from its establishment onwards, described its aim as a regime based on republican system. Furthermore, it continuously struggled to spread this ideology among the people from its first years. A Capital put great efforts to inform the reader through the World War I years and tried to provide information from all the fronts where the war was fought. Besides, it gave the necessary importance and attention to the Gallipoli, Sinai-Palestine and Iraq fronts the Ottoman State engaged in and reported many news from these fronts. In doing so, it frequently referred to the main sources, interviews and evaluations of the current situation. This thesis aims to view the Ottoman State's situation on the fronts during the war years from a different prespective and come up with novel interpretations.
