Abstract (EN)
The Diamond Model (DM), developed by Porter, is among the important studies in the field of strategic management. With the help of the model, it is possible to evaluate why certain countries and industries have a competitive advantage over their competitors in global competition. There are two important aspects in the model. These are originality and level of sophistication. In this context, the model has six dimensions. These dimensions are factor conditions, demand conditions, related and supporting industries, company strategy and competitive structure, role of government and luck factor. By providing a support from the "Diamond Model" of Michael Porter, the aim of this study is to understand factors creating a competitive advantage for mining industry of the Republic of Guinea. The conducted semi-structured interviews and examination of the related documents and videos showed that the main factors for the competitive advantage of Guinean mining industry were "factor conditions", "government" and "chance". On the other hand, the findings also indicated that the model was inadequate to explain whole factors for competitive advantage of the sector. Therefore, the study recommends that the model should be extended with new variables in future studies. Keywords: Diamond Model, Competitive Advantage, Michael Porter, mining industry, the Republic of Guinea.
