Abstract (EN)

Folklore, which is defined as public culture, has great importance in the lives of the people. These elements are unique ones which help community have the characteristic of a nation, persistency and continuance of nations in the history. These values which have vital importance have the features of shaping the future of nation. For this reason, it is vital to record and sustain even the subtlest details belonging to Turkish culture. The Folklore and Ethnography is a study carried out for this purpose and it is a study dealing with the cultural elements of the region recording verbal works in this region. This study consists of seven chapters. In the first chapter the geography and history of Posof is summarized, and in the following six chapters, 'transition periods', 'food culture', 'folklore', 'children's plays', 'public beliefs' and 'folk literature' are dealt in detail. We believe that this study about Posof folklore will lead the way fort the widespread studies in future. This study shed light on the local folklore and ethnography from past to the present because it is the first study carried out in the region.
