Abstract (EN)
The aim of this research is to understand and to introduce Russian Music and the Two Russian Composers - Rachmaninoff and Medtner who lived between 1850 and 1950, with their artistic characters and their various productions. While introducing world-renowned Rachmaninoff, special attention is given to underline the important contributions made by Medtner who followed the similar artistic way of production but contrarily is not as known as Rachmaninoff. Finding out the reasons why Medtner is not as well-known as his alike-colleague Rachmaninoff and creating awareness for him is the utmost aim of this research. In order to reach this aim;?Universal and domestic musical movement occurred in Russia which influenced the Russian Music and the Romantic Period which affected the two composers are introduced with its main composers and general features.?Historical development of Russian Music is explained and the social phenomena and the important characters which influenced this historical development are underlined.?After introducing Rachmaninoff?s and Medtner?s artistic characters and their productions, their common features and interactions are analyzed. However Medtner is not as well-known as his colleague Rachmaninoff, his contributions to Russian Music and to the times when he was productive is highlighted.?Medtner is examined within the conditions of the time period he lived under the light of the literature searched for this study and ?awareness? is created by explaining his artistical value and underlining the reasons why he is not as well-known as he deserves.
