Abstract (EN)

Evaluation The Quality of Voice Between Preoperation and Postoperation in The Patients With Posterior Cordotomy and Partial Aritenoidectomy Bilateral vocal cord paralysis is a life threatening clinical condition that can cause respiratory distress. Complication of thyroidectomy with damaged bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve is the most common reason of these conditions. The aim of treatment is to provide secure airway and protect voice quality. Posterior cordotomy is one of the surgical methods which is applied patients have bilateral vocal cord paralysis. We study 22 patients between the years 2014-2018 Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine Otolaryngology Department retrospectively. We have survey about quality of voice. The survey has three parts. Each parts have ten questions. We compared patients between preoperative and postoperative scores. 18 of the patients in this study have bilateral vocal cord paralysis after thyroidectomy. All of the patients have safe airway after posterior cordotomy and partial aritenoidectomy. The first part of the survey is about functional property of voice. In this part, there is an evident difference between preoperation and postoperation. After operation, quality of voice is decreasing; but the other two parts in the survey do not have any differences (p=0,004). In conclusion; posterior cordotomy which is applied patient with bilateral vocal cord paralysis, is one of the effective and fast surgical methods. At the same time, patients who are applied this surgical method, does not have reduction of voice significantly. Key Words: Bilateral vocal cord paralysis, Posterior cordotomy, Voice
